Founded in 1998, Southern Light has become a leading provider of fiber optic-based communications solutions along the Gulf Coast, delivering large bandwidth solutions to telecommunication carriers, government agencies, and enterprise customers throughout the region. Southern Light constructs, operates, and maintains our own fiber optic infrastructure throughout the Gulf Coast footprint and we connect directly with several national carriers for the transport of traffic beyond our area. With over 2000 route miles of high-count fiber networks and over 2200 facilities on-net as of 2010, Southern Light has an unmatched ability to reach end users with fiber solutions.

Southern Light began as a dark fiber construction group. Our engineering company has built numerous networks for a number of companies. Southern light has leveraged this experience to build world-class networks and control our cost of construction. Our engineering capabilities also ensure that the network is monitored and maintained with the utmost attention to detail.

We serve three primary customer groups – telecommunication carriers, enterprises, and government entities. Southern Light also offers connectivity to ILEC and CLEC companies and most major IXC POPs. For enterprise and government entities, we provide fiber optic network solutions that revolutionize their network capabilities at astonishingly affordable prices.

Southern Light provides a full range of infrastructure options, from fully managed end-to-end solutions to dark fiber infrastructure. What is the mission of Southern Light?

Southern Light is focused on enhancing the economic development of the Gulf Coast region by saturating this area with a fiber optic network equal in quality to any found in such Tier 1 cities as New York, Atlanta, or Chicago. Such a development provides an infrastructure that will allow high-technology businesses to flourish in an area with an excellent quality of life, low cost of doing business, and a fantastic skilled work force to draw upon. We see the availability of fiber optics as important an infrastructure to the 21st Century as railroads were to the 19th Century, and as airplanes, cars, and interstates were to the 20th Century.

Is working with Southern Light a sound business decision?

Southern Light is a private company with a focus on the Gulf Coast area. Because we receive no funding from Wall Street, we are not bound to the whims of the market and have the flexibility to focus beyond meeting next quarter's numbers. Such liberties have allowed us to buy assets outright from other companies in less-stable financial positions. As a result, we have consistantly increased the size, reach, and reliability of our networks.
